This fund helps Māori landowners explore different uses of their whenua, and ways to increase its productivity.

The Whenua Māori Fund helps Māori landowners and trustees make decisions by supporting on-the-ground initiatives. The fund helps whānau prepare for commercial activities by:

  • optimising the use of their land, including the active use of unoccupied and unused land
  • improving land use practices
  • preparing landowners and trustees for commercial ventures – governance training
  • finding pathways to overcome barriers to enhance the productivity of their whenua
  • accessing other Government programmes.
